graveyard part 4

hunter's game the graveyard

You wake up in an unfamiliar cabin.

At first, it almost seems like you're in an entirely different place and that everything had been just a dream. The interior of the cabin looks nothing like the run-down, old-timey shacks that you had been living in before. Everything in here is sleek and modern, from the enormous flat-screen TV mounted on the wall to the fridge and mini-bars stocked with all your favorite foods. There aren't any individual rooms in here, just a common area large enough to house everyone comfortably, no matter how many more people join you...and there will be plenty more people joining you before the week is over.

Because if you look outside the window, it quickly becomes clear that not only are you still in Prayer's Pass, but that you are no longer among the realm of the living. Judging from the tombstones directly outside, you're now in what had been the abandoned broken-down cabin in the graveyard. The cabin's not all that changed; the world outside has gone completely grey and everything you see appears to be faded and blurry. The only things that remain sharp and in color are what's inside the cabin, including your fellow ghosts. Occasionally, people who are still alive may enter, but it's clear that what they're seeing is completely different from what you're seeing. The door's unlocked; however, a mysterious force prevents you from stepping beyond the threshold, no matter how hard you may try. After all, this cabin is a cage for the dead - a gilded one, perhaps, but a cage nonetheless.

On the flat-screen TV plays everything that is currently happening in the town. It will shut off once night starts...and something else will appear instead.

Hey, Maizono.

[He's relaxed a bit since arriving thanks to Robin, but Mondo tenses up immediately when Maizono approaches. He's worried that she's upset with him for what happened. He certainly wouldn't blame her any.]

Didn't think I'd see you again. I mean, it's good that I am, I guess. Well, not good since I'm... y'know.

[Ugh, why is he always so bad at talking to girls?]
destage: (I realize that I need)

[personal profile] destage 2013-06-10 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
...I know what you mean.

[She says that softly, before looking up just a bit--not meeting his eyes, still, but enough so that he could see her face some more.]

I'm glad to see you too, honestly--but...

[She bites her lip, her face drooping down again.]

...I'm so sorry. You wouldn't have done what you did yesterday if I hadn't tried to get you on our side...

Ah, hey, don't you dare blame yourself for that!!

[Oh well, there's the yelling everyone's so familiar with...]

You did what you thought was right, and you can't take the blame for my actions! I did that shit on my own, it's my fault! I don't want you blaming yourself, Maizono!!
destage: (WELL ♡ Maybe I shouldn't fight grown men)

[personal profile] destage 2013-06-10 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, there's a flinch at that--she can't say she wasn't expecting it, but she was expecting blame or...something, at least. Not that, though.

...It takes her a little bit of time to actually get that in her head, but she manages to look up at him. Not with anything really, just...kind of a blank smile. Thanks for throwing her off her groove.]

...I... [Pause.] Thank you, I suppose. It's a little surprising...

[Aha. Ha. Ha...okay, she really doesn't know what to say. She honestly felt she played a part in it, and that's kinda what shocks her.

Still, something comes to mind--]

Ah, Oowada-kun--did Carter-san say anything to you?

[personal profile] diamondo 2013-06-10 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, don't worry about it. You don't have to thank me.

[Her question does distract him, however, and Mondo nods after a moment.]

Yeah. She asked if anyone else knew about her being a hunter, then she told me about being a spy, that's how she could kill me so easily, I guess.

[He doesn't remember anything after she moved to hit him, so he guesses he died quickly.]
destage: (STATE ♡ I can read minds)

[personal profile] destage 2013-06-10 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Goshdarnit. She nods her head at the first bit, but seems...visibly annoyed with the second. Oh come on, did she really just--]

Is that all she said to you?

[Dammit Carter-san. She asked for a few final requests--!]

[There's a pause while Mondo tries to remember if there was anything else. Everything went by so quickly--]

Ah, wait! She said... shit, what was it... She said that you wanted to tell me not to give up hope, is that right?

[It was something like that at any rate.]
destage: (Something for me)

[personal profile] destage 2013-06-10 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[--! She didn't forget! ...Well, that much was at least good!! Her face settles into a bit of a smile at that.]

...Yes. That was...well, one of the things I told her. I suppose she likely wouldn't have been able to do the other...

I'm glad she was at least able to do that much for me. ...Circumstances aside, of course.

Yeah. What was the other, just outta curiosity?

[At least she was able to keep Maizono's last request!]
destage: (BLUSH ♡ Hee hee hee...)

[personal profile] destage 2013-06-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I wrote you a final letter in my journal--I wasn't sure if you would have wanted to go out and find it, but well...

[She laughs a little, a little embarassed. Now writing all of that just feels so sappy, considering the fact that they've all met back in hell some spiritual plane.]

It seems like it was silly to write all of that, now that we're here.

[personal profile] diamondo 2013-06-10 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You wrote me a final letter?

[W-wow, he's actually pretty touched by that! He hadn't even thought about leaving one for Fukawa, though he doubts she would have wanted to read it anyway, after what he did.]

What did it say? I mean, if you're okay with telling me.
destage: (TEARS ♡ Good acting? Emoting?)

[personal profile] destage 2013-06-10 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...It came in two parts, but yes. I did.

[She'd written ones for a lot of people--Kirigiri, Naegi, Spain...his was the only one left by the end of that day, at least. She laughs a little nervously--]

I can only remember the part I wrote just before I died--give me a second.

[Let her check around for some paper and a pen, maybe--augh, nope. Her search ain't a fruitful one, so she just goes back and tells him, quietly, what she can remember--save for the crossed out portions, the beginning greeting, and the obvious emotion that had run through the letter.

...It's pretty clear how embarrassed she is at what she wrote, and how surprised she is that she remembered the bulk of it...]

...Eheh...I hope that wasn't too weird sounding?
diamondo: (✦ 10)

[personal profile] diamondo 2013-06-14 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Maizono... That's... It's not weird at all!

[Oh wow, that was really heart-felt and touching! Just. Give him a second to swipe at his eyes. He is not crying okay.]

I... thanks. Thanks a lot, Maizono. It means a lot to me to hear all that, yeah?
destage: (SMILE ♡ Like nothing's wrong)

[personal profile] destage 2013-06-17 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[...O-oh. Is that...was Mondo crying? She looks taken aback by that reaction for a moment, not knowing what to do with it.

...It takes her a few seconds, but she manages a light smile and attempts to put a hand on Mondo's shoulder.]

Don't mention it, Oowada-kun. You earned those word, you know? You earned them, and my friendship. I should be thanking you, honestly.
diamondo: (✦ 03)

[personal profile] diamondo 2013-06-17 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, no, there's no need to thank me! I'm just doing what I can!

[But it's very obvious that that's pleased him and Mondo grins.]

I'm really glad I can call you a friend, Maizono. You're really great.
