graveyard part 3

hunter's game the graveyard

You wake up in an unfamiliar cabin.

At first, it almost seems like you're in an entirely different place and that everything had been just a dream. The interior of the cabin looks nothing like the run-down, old-timey shacks that you had been living in before. Everything in here is sleek and modern, from the enormous flat-screen TV mounted on the wall to the fridge and mini-bars stocked with all your favorite foods. There aren't any individual rooms in here, just a common area large enough to house everyone comfortably, no matter how many more people join you...and there will be plenty more people joining you before the week is over.

Because if you look outside the window, it quickly becomes clear that not only are you still in Prayer's Pass, but that you are no longer among the realm of the living. Judging from the tombstones directly outside, you're now in what had been the abandoned broken-down cabin in the graveyard. The cabin's not all that changed; the world outside has gone completely grey and everything you see appears to be faded and blurry. The only things that remain sharp and in color are what's inside the cabin, including your fellow ghosts. Occasionally, people who are still alive may enter, but it's clear that what they're seeing is completely different from what you're seeing. The door's unlocked; however, a mysterious force prevents you from stepping beyond the threshold, no matter how hard you may try. After all, this cabin is a cage for the dead - a gilded one, perhaps, but a cage nonetheless.

On the flat-screen TV plays everything that is currently happening in the town. It will shut off once night starts...and something else will appear instead.

[But after a moment Poland's shoulders raise again, turning back to Kanaya and everyone else with a smile.]

Maybe!

[He hadn't dropped it. He'd only stumbled for a moment. Fortunately he hadn't been carrying it alone.]

speakveryclearly: Kanaya reaches up to hold Karkat's face with both hands as she says something tender to him with closed eyes. (Hold)

Bruce thinks there will be a hunter-scavenger-prey pattern; maybe that could be expanded to hunter-scavenger-prey-hunter-scavenger... You were the hunter who came here immediately after Hanekoma; I think your prognosis is bright.

[That and her own might be brighter than that of the proceeding prey, so she's almost starting to think that the deathbrot3 might even survive in the land of the living.]

In that case, I think throat scars are gonna turn into a total fashion trend.

[Not that Poland's would particularly stand out with them also covering the rest of his body.]
speakveryclearly: Kanaya holding her sharply shining face in both her hands with a voyeur's merciless grin, saying "Oh... Oh, My". (Flashforward)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2013-05-31 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Both her hands reflexively fly to her throat, as her face flushes (not with blood but with light) and an uncertain smile tugs at her lips. For the first time, she allows herself to actually imagine the possibility of coming back to life. Feeling sunlight reflect onto her skin off the snow. Seeing Kyouko again. Maybe even the possibility of getting out of Prayer's Pass, seeing Rose and other trolls again... Even just the possibility of Poland being whole again - not really patched together, as he already is here, but with Lithuania - is enough to make her heart soar.]

I could make all of us friendship necklaces.

Oh so you're totally okay with everyone knowing you're friends with a big bad wolf then?
speakveryclearly: Kanaya with a scattered glow, looking down at something that has unexpectedly disappeared. (Hopeless)

...

[Kyouko got bitten... Robin was... what's the hunters' deal, anyway?]

Big bad ex-wolf. From the subsequent hunters I'm under the impression that revived Hanekoma didn't rejoin the pack.

[She's clearly much less excited though realizing there'd still be a game to play and the prey is vindicated almost exclusively by being the majority.]

[Poland hops over to the refrigerator. He's got a craving for actual food for once as opposed to snacks and wodka.] Well, maybe Mayu's been recruited as a replacement Hunter. I mean "Byayucka" totally hasn't been voting in trials since... I don't know. Forever.

I mean losing a hunter to Critter over that this late in the game is just... [For supposedly being at the top of their classes, these Hope's Peak kids were ridiculously useless in Poland's opinion.

Pierogi?]
speakveryclearly: Kanaya looking over at something, not entirely satisfied, flickering. (Calm)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2013-05-31 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[With a raise of her hand and small shake of the head she politely declines the proffered pierogi.]

I'll have to admit that a new wolf would be fairer from a gameplay standpoint now.

[personal profile] notyetlost 2013-05-31 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
But if it's to make stuff more fair for my side, that's probably a long shot with Critter rooting for the prey.

[Poland flops onto the couch, thoughtfully chewing on a pierĂ³g.]

She said Critter liked her though. Maybe it would let her keep that just pick whatever side you want power?
speakveryclearly: Kanaya with faintly upquirked lips and eyebrows at a whimsical Terezi. (Uncertainty)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2013-05-31 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. If she decided to be a hunter and took one of your lost special roles, that could turn the tide of the game.

Mega huge if.

Especially since Mayu doesn't seem to remember much of anything just like Hanekoma.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya with her hand on her hip and a stark, cocentric, unforgiving aura. (Cold)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2013-05-31 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good point... it's even less likely she'd be intrigued enough to join the pack now.

...It is Mayu though.

[Mayu was kind of weird. In a good way.]
speakveryclearly: Kanaya chalk white, jade flushed, punch drunk, with Lalonde arm around her shoulder. (Hazy)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2013-05-31 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. And the supply shop had axes in it at one point...

I have a feeling she'll make today's trial much more fun to watch.
