With night's fall, the television broadcasting everything happening in town turns off; even the ghosts will have to be kept in suspense over who will be joining them come morning. A list appears on the table in front of the TV with a ballpoint pen lying next to it.

He should be the only one. No body parts. Critter gave no confirmation that he'll get it back. We should give away possessions.

You seem so very sure about your robotic replacements. You do understand you come from a different planet and most likely a different universe? How exactly would you get these robotic limbs to her. Stop making promises you can't be sure to keep.

Now, are we sure Critter can't take anything that isn't on us? It's been able to bend reality up to this point already. Do you know this?

James already asked that. Critter said maybe, but like. He kind of implied it wouldn't work because we're here five ever anyways and never gonna see our junk at home anyways.

It's not as if we were teleported, though. Most means seemed innocent enough. We technically came here of our own free will, albeit uninformed.

Of course it's not coincidental - Critter clearly coordinated this. I just mean there's not necessarily much power involved in that task beyond the impressive specificity of the letters.

Or whatever cultural equivalent. Rikku had heard a rumor. My point is, it's not as if Critter actually extended some kind of interdimensional hand and snatched us up.

Yes. Somehow the universes overlapped and allowed people from multiple dimensions to congregate in this area. The question is how.

I somehow doubt Critter is particularly interested in explaining... it claimed not to know or care about what would happen in the case of a nation's death. Maybe the clues will help with that...

It's a choice she shouldn't have to make unless we're at a last resort. Plenty of people are here and willing. No one should need to give up limbs unless necessary. I'm sincerely hoping you will be the first and last to do so.

Yeah... she is kinda. Self destructive. [If refusing to return to life if she got the chance in exchange for Poland getting to live instead is any indication.]

But I mean anything we give up is hard to part with. That's what Critter wants.

Kanaya wants to give up memories of her best friend for life. I couldn't do that. I'd rather hack off my arm in a heartbeat. [Another reason Poland's glad he swapped her for the church and put off her sacrifice for another day. Not that he'd say it out-loud. Seriously at least.]

Maybe we should make of a list of who got to bring physical stuff and who didn't. And unless we need to make a serious statement like I did with my sacrifice, we prioritize the physical junk first.

I've only brought my cane...and Ace. But I don't want him involved in this. I would rather not let Critter have his way with him.

If memories can be a price...I can give up some of mine. I'm an old man and I have many memories precious to me. And some I would prefer to forget entirely. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I lost some of them.

Hey! Maybe if you open a clue in a building or something, Ace will recognize your presence and help sniff it out.

That could work. Ace is a very keen dog. I trained him to be able to help on investigations and he knows my scent well.
