graveyard part five

hunter's game the graveyard

You wake up in an unfamiliar cabin.

At first, it almost seems like you're in an entirely different place and that everything had been just a dream. The interior of the cabin looks nothing like the run-down, old-timey shacks that you had been living in before. Everything in here is sleek and modern, from the enormous flat-screen TV mounted on the wall to the fridge and mini-bars stocked with all your favorite foods. There aren't any individual rooms in here, just a common area large enough to house everyone comfortably, no matter how many more people join you...and there will be plenty more people joining you before the week is over.

Because if you look outside the window, it quickly becomes clear that not only are you still in Prayer's Pass, but that you are no longer among the realm of the living. Judging from the tombstones directly outside, you're now in what had been the abandoned broken-down cabin in the graveyard. The cabin's not all that changed; the world outside has gone completely grey and everything you see appears to be faded and blurry. The only things that remain sharp and in color are what's inside the cabin, including your fellow ghosts. Occasionally, people who are still alive may enter, but it's clear that what they're seeing is completely different from what you're seeing. The door's unlocked; however, a mysterious force prevents you from stepping beyond the threshold, no matter how hard you may try. After all, this cabin is a cage for the dead - a gilded one, perhaps, but a cage nonetheless.

On the flat-screen TV plays everything that is currently happening in the town. It will shut off once night starts...and something else will appear instead.

[SCREAMS AND DODGES. the bottle probably breaks somewhere behind him but who cares about glass hazards...]

Are you trying to kill me a second time?!

Haha, take that, you fucking Spanish bastard--

That was Poland, prat! I never killed Charles! Actually, I'm pretty sure I saved his life or at least extended it for a week!

[waves his hand] This was early on in the game when we still thought we could get away with not killing too many people. The night after we executed Elliot Nightray, if memory serves correctly? Holden wanted to target you and I said no.

...which given what happened afterwards turned to be a bloody terrible idea, but how was I to know then? I just thought we might be able to avoid killing children if we could.

[oh no he laughs...]

No, no, it was a good idea! If I had died that early in the game, you would have had to deal with a serious Ciel for days instead of just one afternoon, and you wouldn't have had Kirigiri to defend you near the start of it. I suppose I ought to thank you for the extra time though, especially since I protected your sorry ass that night instead of my own.

[FLINGS ANOTHER GLASS WITH GREAT VEHEMENCE]

It wouldn't have mattered, seeing as how she didn't get a gun until the end and seemed to think Ada was innocent for some godforsaken reason. If being serious could kill people in this game, you would have all been dead after the second day.

[WOW STOP ATTACKING THE BLIND] You did? Why would you do that...?

[you had better spain he's running low and he has a marie antoinette award to keep up]

You're severely underestimating her if you think not having a gun would have slowed her down, but not even I have an explanation for her affinity toward Ada.

[and then he just kind of freezes up for a second. NO THAT'S A QUESTION YOU CAN'T ASK HIM YOU CAN'T ASK HIM THAT he makes a frustrated muffled screaming sound and lobs an entire plate with part of a cake still on it... blind people are fair game!!!] Just die again already, you stupid old man!

( Well since Charles has been so good, maybe Spain will appeal to his French side and make Crema catalana too. But if anyone asks its totally a Spanish dish and France got the idea from him, okay! )

Ah, bravo! ( Applause. One Spanish seal of approval for you, Charles. Wait, didn't he ask a question earlier... did he get the answer... oh, well. ) There's no one to help Inglaterra now.

[maybe he will even indulge Spain by pretending that's true...

ANYWAY he just kind of sniffs indignantly after that and suddenly feels very grateful that everyone here is too drunk and/or dumb to ask a lot of questions. now he can be extra crafty.]
Thank you for your applause and appreciation. I can rest well knowing there's at least one intelligent nation among us.

She's a sweet girl! My roommate, too. It would've been nice if we actually met her in Mayfield or somewhere else where killing each other wasn't a daily requirement, you know?

[YOU SAY THAT NOW...

also pats soothingly]

There there. Water under the bridge, hm? I admit I'm disappointed I didn't get to do much lying at all, since I was on the honest team. But variety is the spice of life, or so they say, right?

She's a bit dim even if she isn't quite as dim as I had initially thought and I'm actually quite glad we never met her elsewhere. At least this place hasn't lasted years.

[SHUDDERS... imagine being stuck with the people in this Pass for years Ciel seriously. he also looks severely tempted to bite her hand as soon as she pats him wow] That's a stupid saying to apply to a situation like this and you know it.

God, you haven't changed a single bit. Still such an embarrassment and— you're still stupid. So stupid! I regret making that moronic decision and wasting even an ounce of my time on you! [looking for something else to throw? LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE TO THROW.]

[He's smiling, but his expression looks more sad than anything else.]

Hahaha, it was a rather moronic decision, wasn't it? You and America both. It seems like people keep risking their lives for me in this game when they really shouldn't. If I'd known ahead of time, I would have told you not to bother.

[there's something in that expression that's so nostalgic he wants to punch England in the nose for it. miraculously, he refrains...]

Don't put me on the same level as America. At least I only wasted one night. [a huffy noise; he might hear the clink of what would have been a third glass being set back down.] ...You just suffered such moronic deaths the last I saw you that I thought I might spare you from one more out of the infinite kindness of my heart, you know? Next time I'll keep in mind that you're likely the one causing them. [EYEROLL that england can't see whoops]

America does occupy a tier of idiocy all to himself, it's true. [still wearing that pained smile...] But kindhearted lad or not, you should have known I've never really been much of one for the heroic side. I've always been a bit of a bastard, I'm afraid.

How did I die in your town, by the way? [sounding genuinely curious!]

Charles and I have been through this before, remember? Everyone familiar with 'Mayfield', for that matter. Highly questionable town ran by sadistic childish entities that may or may not embody the devil in the flesh. I didn't think us dying here would have a big impact in the grand scheme of things even back home, so I never had any personal stakes in the game apart from Joshua and Charles' amusement and well-being. It's a lot easier to give others the benefit of the doubt and hand trust out freely when it's okay no matter what happens to it!

...

Besides, befriending miss Vessalius had her tell me you were the one who told her to claim Bloodhound, the fact that all of you made Critter upset by seriously thinking to kill Rapunzel's pet lizard during your nightly meetings, and the confirmation that whatever the wolves are fighting for, it'll be realized even after your deaths - except the Lone Wolf at least, but Holden told me that after I got here. Those were all neat pieces of information! I don't think I could've obtained that if things turned out any other way. Speaking of which, who suggested to kill the lizard, anyway? That's excessively silly no matter how I try picturing it...
