graveyard part five

hunter's game the graveyard

You wake up in an unfamiliar cabin.

At first, it almost seems like you're in an entirely different place and that everything had been just a dream. The interior of the cabin looks nothing like the run-down, old-timey shacks that you had been living in before. Everything in here is sleek and modern, from the enormous flat-screen TV mounted on the wall to the fridge and mini-bars stocked with all your favorite foods. There aren't any individual rooms in here, just a common area large enough to house everyone comfortably, no matter how many more people join you...and there will be plenty more people joining you before the week is over.

Because if you look outside the window, it quickly becomes clear that not only are you still in Prayer's Pass, but that you are no longer among the realm of the living. Judging from the tombstones directly outside, you're now in what had been the abandoned broken-down cabin in the graveyard. The cabin's not all that changed; the world outside has gone completely grey and everything you see appears to be faded and blurry. The only things that remain sharp and in color are what's inside the cabin, including your fellow ghosts. Occasionally, people who are still alive may enter, but it's clear that what they're seeing is completely different from what you're seeing. The door's unlocked; however, a mysterious force prevents you from stepping beyond the threshold, no matter how hard you may try. After all, this cabin is a cage for the dead - a gilded one, perhaps, but a cage nonetheless.

On the flat-screen TV plays everything that is currently happening in the town. It will shut off once night starts...and something else will appear instead.

(The graveyard so far)

Rikku...

[Well that was gutsy. Ironic that she'd randomly voted for her once and now randomness was what actually claimed her life in the end.

Kanaya gets to her feet - missing a horn of course - and offers Rikku a hand up.]

Welcome to the afterlife.

The afterlife? This is the Farplane?

[It looks nothing at all like what she's been told. Still, familiar faces are here, so that's something. She accepts the hand and lets Kanaya help her up.]

Thanks.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya looking over at something, not entirely satisfied, flickering. (Calm)

...I don't know what the farplane is. If it's the Al Bhed's afterlife... this isn't it. It's not the furthest ring or the dreambubbles therein either. This is only a construct of the hunters game - if you ever saw the cabin in the Prayer's Pass graveyard, this is it. You can go out the door and see the same place, even living travelers if they happen to visit the graveyard. But you can't go out because you're not alive.

The Farplane is where the souls of the dead from all over Spira go if they're properly Sent. The Al Bhed actually don't like it that much.

But I guess I wasn't Sent, so it's a stupid question anyway.

[Don't mind her.]

So... this is the Critter's magic, then? That's holding us here?
speakveryclearly: Kanaya looking up, flickering gently, thoughtful. (Learning)

[Kanaya looks moderately apologetic about her cultural misstep before Rikku's assurance. Then she nods.]

Yes, and there are suggestions this reprieve from the beyond will only last until... well, until the end of the game.

[She gets up in a smooth motion and goes to the door, which she opens to demonstrate the force field keeping the ghosts inside.]

Ooooooh. That's probably better, even if this is a terrible way to die.

[She follows Kanaya to the door, poking the force field a few times. Yep, they're not getting out.]

We're really not doing well, are we?
speakveryclearly: Kanaya, chin in hands, looks over, eyes narrowed, at sad Karkat sitting right beside her. Diamond hangs in the air. (Unrequited)

Well... no, we aren't. Even with one hunter alive the prey's attempt at defending ourselves has almost entirely ended. Though us shades have become more and more doubtful that wolf victory would be such a bad thing considering how passionate apparently trustworthy individuals are about whatever secret incentive they have--

[She shakes her head.] It's all a wreck.

[personal profile] yvnyet_uv_mekrdhehk 2013-06-12 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... We know that we're supposed to do something other than punish the hunters, but we're kind of stuck on what to do and how.

[Her face falls a bit.]

Sorry I couldn't do much to help them figure it out.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya looking down with shades on and a thin, grim glow. (Displeased)

It's not as if your failure is egregious relative to anyone else's.
