graveyard part 2

hunter's game the graveyard

You wake up in an unfamiliar cabin.

At first, it almost seems like you're in an entirely different place and that everything had been just a dream. The interior of the cabin looks nothing like the run-down, old-timey shacks that you had been living in before. Everything in here is sleek and modern, from the enormous flat-screen TV mounted on the wall to the fridge and mini-bars stocked with all your favorite foods. There aren't any individual rooms in here, just a common area large enough to house everyone comfortably, no matter how many more people join you...and there will be plenty more people joining you before the week is over.

Because if you look outside the window, it quickly becomes clear that not only are you still in Prayer's Pass, but that you are no longer among the realm of the living. Judging from the tombstones directly outside, you're now in what had been the abandoned broken-down cabin in the graveyard. The cabin's not all that changed; the world outside has gone completely grey and everything you see appears to be faded and blurry. The only things that remain sharp and in color are what's inside the cabin, including your fellow ghosts. Occasionally, people who are still alive may enter, but it's clear that what they're seeing is completely different from what you're seeing. The door's unlocked; however, a mysterious force prevents you from stepping beyond the threshold, no matter how hard you may try. After all, this cabin is a cage for the dead - a gilded one, perhaps, but a cage nonetheless.

On the flat-screen TV plays everything that is currently happening in the town. It will shut off once night starts...and something else will appear instead.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya rendered with ugly realism, staring at the viewer like rotten meat. (Undead)

[Unceremoniously she gestures at Poland - missing the same hand Polonia was.]

That's how.
motheringnation: (in the army now)

....by cutting off hands?

[And she thought being dead would mean this was over.]

.....can you tell me the basic things about this place please? I'm sorry it's just a bit...confusing. But I want to help if I can.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya looking over at Vriska, both glowing and smirking smugly; they hold hands with interlaced fingers. (Conspiratrix)

1/5 probably

Shall I give you the guided tour?

[No seriously, she's going to take Ukraine by the hand and give her the guided tour.]
speakveryclearly: Kanaya holding and admiring a bag of skittles and glowing warmly. (Excited)

[She leads Ukraine to the fridge and minibars first.]

This is the thermal hull as I call it, or the refrigerator as you Earth snobs insist upon for reasons that are still beyond me. There are almost certainly an abundance of Ukrainan [jukreɪnən not jukreiniən] delicacies stocked here now that you've arrived.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya looks down, eyes almost closed, at Eridan in a meadow. She is wearing short sleeves, his scarf, and green makeup. (Conciliatory)

[Check out the enormous flat-screen TV!]

This is the television! We can see everything happening in Prayer's Pass - except behind locked doors. It's essentially an upgraded version of the radio system. [She shows her the remote.] It's very easy to go backwards or pause things or skip around... they really mean it about us watching over them.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya cradles Gamzee's chin in her hand as she happily makes a purple mess of his neck. (Taking)

[She gestures at a table besides the television.]

At night we can't watch anything, though, unless Critter is feeling generous... instead every one of us picks something to give up in exchange for a clue being sent down to the living. A list shows up here, like when we vote.

[She points out each maimed ghost.]

You have Mr. Sunderland there - he gave the picture of his dead wifesprit - wife - that's in the jail. Mayu's beloved bunny familiar is in the supply shop. Poland's hand... well, they couldn't actually put that in the church. The same goes for Sayaka's arm; just her glove accompanied the video. And just last night England went blind.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya rendered in shades of blue, with a friendly smile on her face. (Princess)

5/5!!!!!

We haven't found out what he unlocked yet, just that it's audio of some kind. [She lets go of Ukraine's hand and flashes a winning, fangsy smile.] Are you ready? Do you want to turn on the TV and see what the new clue is? Or do you still have more questions.

motheringnation: (It's alright brother)

[personal profile] motheringnation 2013-05-26 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Give her a moment, it's a lot to take in.]

.....No. That's it for now.

Thank you.
notyetlost: (shut up)

[personal profile] notyetlost 2013-05-27 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Pulling his sleeve down even more.] Can you please stop pointing that out to everyone?!
notyetlost: (not my fault)

Use someone else as the example!

Getting my hand chopped off is not like some casual thing. So like. If I want to talk about it with total strangers... or you know. Like. Ukraine. Or whoever.

I will mention it.

[England's tone is polite but firm.]

You have to understand. As a nation, if something's wrong with our bodies, it means there's something wrong with our people or the land itself that other countries could take advantage of. Even though we're dead and the situation's different, it's still something personal that I would prefer to reveal on my own terms.

I realize my lack of sight and Poland's lack of hand are not exactly easy to hide and that newcomers will need to know about what happens at night. But that doesn't mean you get to tell other people about it for me when I'm perfectly capable of speaking for myself or even not speaking at all. [and then darkly:] Spain can never know.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya very serious over a needle and thread in her hand and mouth. (Determined)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2013-05-27 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's at times like this that I really miss the relative geopolitical simplicity of the Alternian empire....

[Kanaya spends some time thinking about this injunction.]

Okay, fine. I understand now. [This is a challenge for her, somewhat like comprehending the political incorrectness of Poland's "partition".] I haven't told you though that my planned loss... is of memory, so it won't be as easy for me to volunteer myself for demonstration as I wish it would be. [Even though she's missing a horn. That's just for funsies.]

Memory...[He shakes his head.] Call me a sentimental fool if you will, but I can't imagine ever giving that up, even with many centuries to choose from. Even blind, at least I know I'm still completely and wholly myself.

If we had any writing implements here, I'd offer to jot down the details of whatever it is you plan on giving up so you'll still at least know of it, if not remember it. As it is though, I still have quite the decent verbal memory. Would you like to tell me what it is you'll be forgetting so I can relay it back to you in full once the deed is done?
speakveryclearly: Kanaya with a scattered glow, looking down at something that has unexpectedly disappeared. (Hopeless)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2013-05-27 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
No--[Her response is quick with denial, a hidden note of pain.] That'd... be too hard anyway. And it'll be much more painful if it's not a clean break. I--Rose Lalonde. My best friend. If she'd come with me we'd be wrecking ourselves about each other as badly as you and America or Lithuania and Poland, basically... She's the only person who'll really miss me or suffer at all that I'm gone, I'm part of a very small group few other members of which are all that concerned about me anymore... Everything about her. Critter can tell what's the most acute and yet most sensible thing to give up - compare Sayaka and Poland.

I'd love to tell you about her anyway - she's amazing and there are quite a few associated stories - but the biggest favor you could do is keep me from realizing that I've lost memories at all, since... missing something is much worse than never having had it. I'll probably try to sacrifice again not knowing that I already have, so - keep the line going with Bruce and Ema and everybody.
